Since 2016, we have been building a unique community of movers who are passionate about moving freely, inside and outside the gym on the cutting edge of movement research and expertise. For us, it’s more than just a great workout or building strength, though we can guarantee you’ll get that here. It’s also about growing as human beings, and most importantly achieving our goals with support, care and a lot of fun.

You may have seen some of the videos on our site, app or social media about what kind of movement we do here, and maybe you’re still wondering, “What is this? What is a class like?”

We know trying something new can bring up different feelings, but we all started as beginners, too, and we are here to support you.

What to expect in class

Though each class is unique, our approach is the same: building strength, gaining knowledge and making consistent progress towards your goals with expert guidance in community.

mobility-focused warmup

We understand how important it is to prepare your body for movement to avoid injury and unneeded stress. Our warmups help increase mobility and prepare you for the movements we do so that you can move at your best and feel safe and confident in your body.

ground movement & locomotion

Ground movement, locomotion, what? Remember when you were a little kid and you used to get up and down from the floor all the time with ease? Ground movement and locomotion help with just that. No prior experience needed. We break down the movements for all levels in our classes. Just like learning a language, for new students locomotion is a new language tool for your body to use in and outside of the gym.

strength training

With guidance from our expert teachers, we’ll help you develop a strength program that works for your level and current abilities. We focus on upper arm strength, leg strength and shoulder strength using weights & barbells, body weight movements, hangs, gymnastics rings and mobility drills. Before you know it, you’ll be landing your handstands and cartwheels with ease and flow.

movement puzzles & games

We use games to help make increasing your agility, mobility, body awareness and capacity for learning new movements fun. Based on research, the more we play the easier it is to learn new concepts without self-judgment or limitation. And, at Ape Co we get to do this with others in community, which usually involves a lot of laughs and smiles. This increases creative problem-solving and decreases stress when learning new skills, helping you absorb and retain new knowledge more efficiently.

acrobatic preparation & HANDBALANCING

Whether you’re a total novice, a seasoned gymnast or a capoeirista, we will meet you where you are. If you are a beginner, we’ll start slow with reintroducing cartwheels, handstands and crawling into your movement. If you are a movement enthusiast with some acrobatic movement foundation, we will work with you to design specific drills and skills to build upon that will help you reach your acrobatic goals.

improvisation & integration

While we’re serious about building skills using specific drills to help you reach your goals, we also give you the opportunity to integrate the movements you have learned through rounds of freeform improvisation and experimentation. This is where you get to be creative and have fun - like an acrobatic, locomotion dance party. Improvisation creates space for deeper learning and personal breakthroughs to help you push past skill gaps and milestones.
